Waitts Mount Park Improvements Highlighted

Malden Observer

November 14, 2013

On Saturday Nov. 1 more than forty residents of Wards 4 & 5 turned out for a community meeting at Waitts Mount Park, which was sponsored by Ward 4 councilor Jim Nestor.

Pam Shadley from Shadley Associates, the architectural firm working on the renovation of the park, led the group on a hour-long tour of renovations that include the children’s playground and the adult obstacle/workout area.    Mayor Christenson was also on hand and was impressed with the work so far.

“I couldn’t be happier with the work on the park so far, it is amazing to see where it came to where it will ultimately lead” said Ward 4 Councilor Jim Nestor.  “We have been able to reclaim one of the jewels of the City”. It seems as though every resident of Malden has been at the park at some point, and when the groups get together like this week, the stories really start to flow.”

Councilor Nestor indicated that he has received numerous calls from residents excited about the renovation from the park, including one last week from a former resident of Malden who is now living in Vermont.

“He saw an article on the internet and left a message at my home,” said Nestor. “I spent an hour or so speaking with him, telling him about the renovations, and listing to his stories about being at the park as a child.”

The main work is scheduled to be completed within the next few weeks.  Seeding and plantings will resume in the spring with a grand opening schedule for June.
