Shadley Associates is leading a team of consultants in the renovation of two playgrounds for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
Improvements at McMorrow Playground in Dorchester focus on renovating the existing playground with new and refurbished play equipment set within rubber safety surfacing. Additional improvements enhance universal accessibility to the playground and neighboring basketball courts, provide new benches and bicycle parking, and expand the existing tree canopy around the playground and basketball court. Construction is underway and is expected to be completed in fall 2026.
Improvements at Farren Playground in Watertown include renovations to the existing playground and basketball courts. Located along the banks of the Charles River, adjacent to the Braille Trail and Paul Dudley White Bike Path, Farren Playground is a popular destination for community members. Proposed improvements include a new playground with nature-themed play equipment set within rubber safety surfacing, two shade shelters with picnic tables and game tables, a second accessible playground entrance from the Paul Dudley White Bike Path, and additional benches within the playground. The two existing basketball courts will be renovated and converted into a single basketball court and a fitness area with rubber safety surfacing. Additional planting and new rain gardens will capture and infiltrate stormwater onsite. The design team is developing technical drawings, and construction is expected to begin in spring 2027.
