Sutcliffe Courtyard Garden

The Sutcliffe Courtyard Garden is a shady urban oasis located in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. It is the green centerpiece of a historic, 6-story, four-building restoration project which includes offices, a restaurant, residences and the Kentucky Bourbon Museum. Rehabilitation and expansion of the existing buildings was led by Robert A.M. Stern Architects. The courtyard is located in the basement-level remnants of a demolished building. Salvaged architectural details provided the inspiration for a design which embraces the site’s unique heritage and provides an attractive passive garden for guests to enjoy lunch or informal gatherings. This project won design awards from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects and the Kentucky Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
