River’s Edge is a 220-acre mixed use development along the Malden River in Medford, Massachusetts. The project transformed a neglected, post-industrial brownfield into an active, vibrant community which features a 115,000 SF LEED Gold-certified office building, a 222-unit luxury apartment complex and the Tufts University Boathouse. Project landscapes include the award-winning 10-acre Park at River’s Edge and five acres of additional publically accessible open space. Also included are over an acre of landscaped roof terraces, a café terrace, and three acres of created wetlands.
The Park at Rivers Edge has been featured in Landscape Architecture Magazine and has won a Design Honor Award from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects. It was also the New England Environmental Business Council’s Brownfield Project of the Year, and the project’s housing component won a National Association of Housing Rehabilitation Organization’s (NAHRO), federal Design Excellence award. Shadley Associates provided assistance on public and agency approvals and the substantial environmental permitting required for this significant Brownfield site, as well as all site planning and landscape architectural design and phased construction services for the entire park and project.
