The collaboration between the landscape architect and client on this 400-acre working rural farm project resulted in enhancing the property’s function as a farm and allowing it to evolve to accommodate the needs of a young contemporary family.

As Prime Consultant, Shadley Associates created the site master plan and provided full landscape architecture services for the greater landscape improvements and the homestead, then oversaw all design and construction of the pool, pavilion and the related landscape.

Early projects included the renovation of an abandoned circa-1890 farmhouse and several farm outbuildings, the restoration of the farm’s pond, paddocks and fields, and the realignment of the drive and installation of a half mile of board fencing, which improved agricultural and aesthetic opportunities.

With these infrastructural renovations completed, the client and landscape architect next completed the new swimming pool and pavilion, without compromising the agrarian landscape which drew them to the property in the first place.
