Shadley Associates is assisting HDR Architecture with the site design of the Union Station Regional Intermodal Transportation Center in Springfield, MA. Constructed in 1926, Union Station is on the National Register of Historic Places. The updated site design will allow the historic structure to serve as a transportation nexus for Springfield-New Haven High-Speed Commuter Rail, regional and local buses, and taxi service. The project integrates principles of universal and sustainable design and will ultimately elevate and encourage pedestrian and bicycle accessibility. It will also be home to 64,000 SF of commercial space on the upper floor of the Terminal Building. Budgeted at approximately $85.5 million, the construction of this project has recently begun and will be complete in the fall of 2016.
