The UMass Boston Harborwalk project was formally opened to the public on September 21, 2015! Shadley Associates worked with a large consultant team to design and construct a segment of the Boston Harborwalk along Dorchester Bay at UMass Boston. Shoreline stabilization was designed by the prime consultant, Bourne Consulting Engineering, to combat severe erosion and to accommodate a cap over the existing soils as a result of the site’s historic use as a landfill. Shadley Associates is responsible for the design and detailing of all upland improvements including the edge treatment, new multi-use walkway, seating areas, site furnishings such as benches and bicycle parking, lighting, signage and planting. This segment of the Boston Harborwalk closes a critical missing link and its design complements its two immediate neighbors, the John F. Kennedy Library and Old Harbor Park.
